My Techniques

Active Release Therapy (Back to Top)

Active Release Therapy or "ART" is a method of soft tissue release based on delivering the correct forces to the exact location of fibrotic and adhered lesions. This technique is one of my favorite. It is often quick and painless. I can administer this technique through clothing. Very effective.

Pfrimmer Deep Tissue Massage (Back to Top)

This technique is based primarily on cross fiber friction or a deep strumming of the fibrotic and adhered areas of the muscle. Another favorite in the tool box. The method was created by a woman who had worked herself into a wheelchair with manual labor. After being seen by a multitude of specialists with no answers, she began working on her on legs. Theresa Pfrimmer healed herself and many after her. This is a very valuable modality for me.

Muscle Stripping (Back to Top)

I use very deep, very accurate high pressure strokes to separate deep fascial layers as well as areas where muscle tissue has become adhered to bone or other muscles. This technique is painful but very effective for old injuries and chronic areas of restriction. I usually only ask my clients to tolerate seven seconds of this at a time. This one is the hammer.

Myofascial Stretching (release) (Back to Top)

I work on the fascia both superficial and deep with long slow holds of various tension and direction. This work can be very subtle but surprisingly effective. The fascia is like a tough layer of shrink wrap that runs all through us. Once adhered, it can really impede circulation, lymph drainage, nerve supply and movement. I always do some of this work to begin adressing an affected area of the body.

Sports Massage (Back to Top)

Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics.  Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term.  Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates.  Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body’s natural immune function.

Swedish Massage (Back to Top)

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork.  It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation.  The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.

Acupressure (Back to Top)

Acupressure is a form of bodywork similar to acupuncture, with the aim of stimulating specific points along the energy lines of the body to establish overall health and vitality by balancing your Qi (energy) flow.  Unlike acupuncture however, with this modality I use my hands to apply pressure to the specific points rather than needling, producing similar therapeutic results.
